International convention

this week i see many jw going over the top and beat their (sometimes medical) limits for the convention preparation with music, ethnic cloats and greeting costumes.. my jw grandparents will turn in their grave.. my opinion is that the jw organization has given their blessing at it because of "give them bread and games".

it keeps the rank and file busy.. what i don't get is that the oldtimers accept all these changes.

@Gorby,

I severely doubt I'll be going to the convention as my main concern is keeping my young daughter away from there.

Otoh I'd like to go there and perhaps meet a few old JW friends or new pimo/exjw friends.

So I'll be checking the 'weather' in my family and see if going there just for the lunch intermission is an option that doesn't reopen too many wounds.

If so, I'd be happy to make your acquaintance in person :-)

In any case, hang in there. It's 3 says of boredom but at least you managed to get rid of most regular meetings right?

Disaster Preparedness Training - WTF is that?

i'm making plans for next weekend and my wife says she's not available saturday.

" i asked.. no, disaster preparedness course (or something like that) at the kingdom hall.. is this new?

My guess: this fits exactly in Watchtower's MO (as everything they do).

It reinforces the persecution and Armageddon complex.
It gives Watchtower a documented way to show the government they really are a charity because they give non religious disaster preparedness courses.
As per point 2: I wouldn't even be surprised if Watchtower gets some kind of government grant or subsidy for their Disaster preparedness school....
It gives Watchtower yet another way to impress the JW with their disaster relief works. That way JW will give more money for that goal, and Watchtower gets to earn even more from their profitable insurance scam.

I just arrived at a bungalow park at 20 minutes from the convention site.

My in-laws and wife (all pimi) wanted to stay close to the convention and wanted to hire a bungalow for the weekend. Due to it being high season they could only book a full week. I decided to come with them for the week. The alternatives were having to take a week holiday with my daughter but without my wife, or having my daughter go with them and thus also visit the convention. Neither were very enticing so here I am.

Upon arrival it became clear the park is filled with JW. Guess who will have the pool all to themselves this weekend? :-)

What about separation of church and state?

As a Norwegian exjw on Reddit explained, this is not really a court. Is a mediation 'court' below the real courts to unburden those.

Conciliation boards

A conciliation board is allocated to each municipality. Each conciliation board consists of three lay members and an equal number of deputies elected or appointed by the municipal council for terms of four years. Conciliation boards mediate between disputing parties and are generally authorised to pronounce a verdict. Conciliation boards resolve the majority of civil disputes, but they do not hear criminal cases and participation in their hearings is voluntary.

So Watchtower will probably just have a judge look at this and get it thrown out..

oh buy this is going to be long.i'll be lucky if most of you still remember me its been a really long time since i've posted.

so im 15 now makes me happy because im getting so close to being able to work and being able to make my own money and save it.i've had talks with my family i havent said flat out that i dont care or like this but they have figured out that i dont agree with it,who knows whats that means for the future but i know its most likely going to be something bad.the way i've dealt with this hole shit hole is that i just dont let it get to me.i told myself im not going to let this hole thing ruin my childhood and my chance to make memories and to do things that normal kids can do,and the year i said that is the year ive made so many storys about dumb and fun things i did and that year made me feel like a normal kid and made me feel like nothing was wrong and maybe my life isn't that bad.i know its not smart i know i'll be in big trouble if my aunt or anybody that jw found out about what i was doing could go very wrong,but at this point i dont care even if thats dumb im just not going to let this ruin my time to have fun and be active before i become a adult,alot of stuff went on i mean i diged my own hole have my own girlfriend big red flag to them i have all worldly friends big red flag to them when most of its just me being normal but those two would put me into deep shit.. i know that the hole double life thing is bad to jw's but if any other teenager or kid is on this website i just want to say dont be scared to live a double life,dont be its brought more happiness than i've ever had in years its brought more motivation in my life than anything.its like having the life you should've had yes its hard to get through the loops of dealing with jw's but all the work is worth it.the so called double life is a normal life that you should live so dont feel bad and live the life you should be living.. but im happy to be posting again that first part is my update and the second one is for any kid that is looking around here,i hope you guys are doing good and i hope everybody is fine its good to be back!.

WT / JW Doctrine ,Satan cast out of Heaven in 1914 ? He has always had access to the earth ? Since Eve .

this doctrine / belief that jehovah`s witnesses have , surely raises a few questions that they do not address.. 1.this spirit being challenged god by questioning his authority and offering eve an alternative making himself satan.. and this took place on earth ,the garden of eden.

so he who became satan had access to the earth.. 2. all throughout the old testament , the hebrew scriptures do we find examples of satan interfering with gods plan of things either by himself or his followers .. 3.their are just too many examples to list individually ,however a few key ones would be , the nephilim , job when god in heaven asks him where he has been , and his reply , from roving about on the earth .

, etc.etc.. 4.and of course in the new testament , where jesus is taken up into a mountain to be tempted by satan for fourty days ?.

All throughout the Old testament , the Hebrew Scriptures do we find examples of Satan interfering with Gods plan

Apart from the story of Job, can you name one event in which Satan is explicitly mentioned as the evil doer in the OT? I don't think there are any that can be ascribed to Satan without reinterpretation given in the NT or in Watchtower literature (but I may be wrong). Apart from the book of Job, Satan doesn't seem to play ball in the OT. And why would he? Yahweh managed all the killing, maiming and raping just fine by himself.

As for 1914 and Satan suddenly waking up: I guess he fell asleep before. After all Jdib had his long ass 7th creation day Sabbath, Jesus was sitting on his hands doing nothing until 1914, so why would Satan be all busy then?

But yeah it doesn't make any sense at all.

) the watchtower magazine is one hundred and forty years old today.

what a splendid record of thorough-going ignorance, persuasion, irrational belief, enslavement to religious rules, misinterpretation of the bible, false alarms, historical revisionism, misleading instructions and plain deceit.. 140 years of wasting the lives of millions of people suppressing their natural ambitions to live fulfilling lives, discouraging them from having children for the sake of nearness to the fairy tale armageddon, keeping jw children uneducated and dependent on the state to end up in old age on welfare and in poverty-- the list goes on.. what a record of destroying billions of trees to print this useless cult propaganda, getting a record distribution figure for numbers in the publishing world and for what?

That first Watcht Tower contains possibly the best Watchtower article ever written. At least it's my favorite Watchtower article. There's only one part of a sentence that I cannot fully agree with.

"WHAT IS TRUTH?"
This question is one which every sincere Christian should ask and seek to answer. We should learn to love and value truth for its own sake; to respect and honor it by owning and acknowledging it wherever we find it and by whomsoever presented. A truth presented by Satan himself is just as true as a truth stated by God.

Perhaps no class of people are more apt to overlook this fact than the Christian. How often do they in controversy overlook and ignore truth presented by their opponents.
This is particularly the case when arguing with an infidel. They feel at perfect liberty to dispute everything he says on religious subjects. This is not the correct principle. Many infidels are honest--as anxious to speak and believe the truth as are Christians--and if in converse with them we ignore truths which they may advance, we not only fail to convince them of our truths, but put an end to all hope of reaching them; for our failure to admit the evident truth which they advance begets in them contempt for the one who is not honest enough to admit one truth because he does not see how it can be reconciled to another. Accept truth wherever you find it, no matter what it contradicts, and rely for ability to afterwards harmonize it with others upon "The Spirit of truth, which shall guide you into all truth," as Jesus promised.
Truth, like a modest little flower in the wilderness of life, is surrounded and almost choked by the luxuriant growth of the weeds of error. If you would find it you must be ever on the lookout. If you would see its beauty you must brush aside the weeds of error and the brambles of bigotry. If you would possess it you must stoop to get it.

Be not content with one flower of truth. Had one been sufficient there would have been no more. Gather ever, seek for more.

Weave them together as a garland --"Bind them on thee as a bride doeth." "Bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: so shalt thou find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man." Prov. 3:3.
